Pricing is another matter to be determined. As far as the Pro is concerned, it will be around the same price as a OnePlus 6T (which starts at INR 38,000). The RX17 Pro has Super VOOC and a 3D ToF camera over its competitor, though it misses out on the flagship chipset.

During the summer Oppo brought its flagship Find X to India, before that the company’s lineup for the country consisted of the budget-conscious A and F-series.

Nokia and Oppo sign multi-year patent agreement

Nokia announced today that it signed a multi-year patent licensing deal with the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo.

The company did not reveal details about the agreement, but it looks like the Guangdong-based maker will rely on the biggest license holder in the mobile world for connectivity patents.

Maria Varsellona, Nokia CLO and President of Nokia Technologies, stated simply that “Oppo is one of the leaders in the smartphone industry and [Nokia] is pleased to welcome them as a licensee. This agreement further validates [Nokia’s] global licensing program.

Oppo R17 Pro will arrive in India on December 1

Image result for Oppo R17 Pro will arrive in India on December 1

Oppo introduced the R17 Pro in China back in the summer, but we had to wait until October 24 for an appearance away from the domestic scene. It was -launched in Europe under the RX17 Pro moniker, and now the phone is hitting India, with pre-orders starting on December 1.

The Indian division of Oppo teased the phone on its Twitter account, with launch dates appearing on the official website. While pre-orders are scheduled for Saturday, actual launch and shipments will begin next Tuesday – December 4.

Oppo R17 Pro will be the first Super VOOC smartphone in India. The phone is also the first Oppo smartphone with three cameras on the back, the third actually being 3D TOF depth sensor that you can’t use on its own.

The phone was initially introduced for CNY4,299 or $625 at that time. In Europe, it is available for €599, but we expect around 10% lower price tag for India, or somewhere between INR40,000 and INR45,000.

Oppo R19 to be the first smartphone using MediaTek’s upcoming Helio P80 chipset

MediaTek is working on its newest and best upper-midrange chipset at the moment. When it’s out, this will be called Helio P80, and it will be a beast in AI performance, as revealed by a benchmark last week. The P80 was second to only the top of the line Snapdragon 8150, which is expected to power every 2019 flagship under the sun that is an Android smartphone not made by Huawei.

So if you were wondering which phone will be the first to come with the Helio P80, a new report today claims to have the answer: Oppo’s R19. This will be next year’s successor to the R17, which used the Snapdragon 670. Oppo isn’t a stranger to using MediaTek wares, however – the R15 was powered by the Helio P60.

However, in the R17 family, the Chinese company decided against using a MediaTek part because of unsatisfactory performance. Apparently this is one of the reasons behind the chip maker pushing for strengthening that in the P80 in order to get the Oppo contract back.

The P80 is built on TSMC’s 12nm process and will have an octa-core CPU using ARM’s cores, while the GPU may be upgraded compared to the P60/P70. The P80 will be MediaTek’s premier product for the first half of 2019, so it should make an appearance in other devices as well, following the Oppo R19.

Oppo will show its foldable phone at the Mobile World Congress 2019

Oppo will show its first foldable smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2019. The confirmation comes straight from Oppo’s Product Manager Chuck Wang.

While he didn’t disclose any specifics about the foldable phone, Wang has mentioned that Oppo will deliver a 5G smartphone in 2020 and will also aim to release its first phone with a display cutout in 2020.

Foldable phones will likely prove a key focus in 2019. Samsung already provided a glimpse of its Galaxy F foldable smartphone and is expected to give it more screen time at the MWC in February.

LG will show off its foldable phone at CES 2019 in January, while Huawei will also showcase a foldable phone at the MWC. And we know that Xiaomi is also working on a folding display phone.

The other demo included vivo NEX 5G smartphone, which is basically a vivo NEX S unit with the Snapdragon X50 modem. It was constantly streaming live footage from a camera, demonstrating the lack of any package loss during the video transfer through the China Mobile 5G antennas.

Oppo sells 200,000 Realme 2 phones in 5 minutes

We were eagerly expecting the market launch of the Oppo Realme 2 after the phone was introduced as a “market disruptor” with an aggressively low price of INR8,990 ($130/€110). The subbrand did not disappoint and boasted on Twitter it sold 200,000 units in just 5 minutes during its first flash sale.

The Oppo Realme 2 is an exclusive device for the Indian market and arrives with Snapdragon 450 chipset and 13 MP + 2 MP dual camera. It has Color OS 5.1, based on Android Oreo, and a huge 4,230 mAh battery.

The affordable price is for the 3/32 GB variant, while consumers wanting some more RAM and storage could purchase the 4/64 GB version for INR10,990 ($155/€130).

Color options are Diamond Black or Diamond Red with a cool pattern on the back that changes shade under different lighting, while a Diamond Blue option is expected to arrive in October.[“source=ndtv”]

Oppo R17 Pro in for review

The Oppo R17 Pro or RX17 Pro as it’s known in Europe for trademark reasons is the latest arrival in our office. It offers a premium design and feel with a gradient color finish on the back that unlike anything else in the market. On this occasion we got the Emerald Green variant which looks a bit more conservative than the so-called Radiant Mist color.

A Snapdragon 710 chipset is ticking under the hood, so we expect great CPU performance combined with high power efficiency. You get 8GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage and unlike the OnePlus 6T, which shares much of the design, the R17 Pro offers expandable storage if you sacrifice the second SIM slot.

A gorgeous 6.4-inch AMOLED display sits on the front with 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution (tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio) and a minimalist notch on the top. The bezels all around are super slim including the bottom chin.

A 25MP shooter sits on the notch with f/2.0 aperture while the back packs a rather unorthodox triple camera setup. The main module has variable aperture f/1.5-2.4 and a 12MP sensor with OIS. The secondary camera has 20MP resolution, but its usage mostly boils down to sensing.

The third unit is a 3D TOF (time-of-flight) stereo sensor that we’ve previously mostly seen in advanced face unlock implementations. However, putting it on the back means that’s not the case here – you get some Animoji-style gimmicks for now, while a precise ruler for the camera app is coming through a software update.

Yet, the two centerpiece features of the Oppo R17 Pro are certainly the optical in-display fingerprint reader and SuperVOOC fast charging that can top up the 3,700 mAh battery in just 35 minutes. The appropriate 50W charger is included in the retail package so you can enjoy the hard-to-believe charging speeds right out of the box.

The Oppo R17 Pro will now go through our extensive testing so we can make a better assessments of its market prospects. Stay tuned as the review will be hitting our homepage shortly.

Top 10 trending phones of week 39

hese are turbulent times in our top 10 trending chart as we see our fourth leader in as many weeks – the newly announced Realme 2 immediately shooting to the top. Funnily enough the leaders of the past three weeks complete the top four.

The Galaxy A7 (2018) steps down to second, ahead of the Xiaomi Pocophone F1. The iPhone XS Max, in fourth, is the only remaining Apple smartphone in the top 10 after the company got a clean sweep of the podium just two weeks ago.

The yet to be announced Huawei Mate 20 Pro is already capturing your interest and you made it the fifth most popular handset this week. It is the locomotive in a proper train of Pros, followed by the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro and Oppo F9 Pro and the Redmi 6 Pro.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro was close to becoming the fifth member of that lineup, but it was edged out by the Galaxy Note9 for the ninth position.

So the two members of last week’s top 10 to miss out now are the Apple iPhone XS and iPhone XR. With the XS Max also losing ground despite the trio launching in its second wave of countries this Friday the chart is in danger of going Apple’s very quickly.

Oppo will be first to release Gorilla Glass 6 phone

Corning introduced its latest iteration of the Gorilla Glass two weeks ago and manufacturers are fast to take advantage of the new glass. The company says that Oppo is going to be the first OEM to integrate it into its new smartphone. Corning adds that more smartphone makers are looking to take advantage of the protective glass and it’s working closely with them.

The Gorilla Glass 6 is said to be two times more durable than its Gorilla Glass 5 predecessor. This means that the material can survive 15 drops from 1 meter and it’s considerably more resistant to pressure. The results are achieved thanks to an entirely new chemical composition.

We are expecting Oppo’s upcoming flagship R17 to debut with Gorilla Glass 6 given the fact that the Find X and R15 both came with Gorilla Glass 5 on top.
